Visit to Sargaalaya arts & crafts village – Iringal

From Wikipedia: The famous son of Iringal, Kunjali Marakkar, went on to become the trusted admiral and commanded the Zamorin’s fleet and thwarted the efforts of Portuguese vessels trying their best to make a landing on the Kerala coast. The birthplace of this valiant admiral of the Zamorin is situated on the southern bank of the Mooradi River. Today, Keralites remember his valour and selfless service rendered for his motherland with lot of reverence.

Iringal Craft Village managed by tourism department of Kerala is one of the major tourist attractions in Iringal. Sargaalaya organizes the event each year, mostly staring from
the end of year, usually in December. It lasts untill February of next year. Last year we made it to the village at the day of Inauguration.

I was excited to see Hon. CM of Kerala Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan. It was the first time I was seeing a Chief Minister other than in T.V 😛 Luckily I was able to zoom and click some of his images.

After the inauguration ceremony we had a walk-through of stalls. There were many skilled craftsperson from around the globe displaying and selling their works. Here are some of the images.

Usually the village is open to the public from morning 10 to evening 6. But during the exhibition the entire village will light up at night during the exhibition times.

If you ever come to Kozhikode and are a lover of crafts, paintings and art works then Crafts village is a must visit.
